Changing plans can be expensive

Let's see. Originally I was attending the convention by myself.

  • Plane: $335 (includes 1st class frequent flyer upgrades)
  • Room: $79 (comped 2 days, one day at casino rate in NYNY)
  • Car: 3.25 days @ 15.25 per $77.25 (including tax, fees)
Total cost WAS $491.25

My wife, Teri, surprised me over the weekend and decided to join me. I added one day to the trip.

  • Plane: $100 penalty to change flight plus $10 needed for new higher fare. $345 for Teri's ticket. New flight is not upgradeable - $50 fee to redeposit frequent flyer miles. New plane cost: $840
  • Room: $178 (comped 2 days, two days at casino rate in Mirage - Teri's favorite)
  • Car: 4.25 days @ 18.25 per $104.25 (including tax, fees)
  • Shows: $650+ (Momma Mia, Penn & Teller, Mystere) - something I don't do on my own.

Total cost NOW is $1772.25

YIKES!!!
