Very nice Don! I suspect you're right about the names on the cover. I have Mandel's book sitting here to read next.

It was the wrong way to treat people. It was the wrong way to do business.

Exactly the same attitude Harold Smith Sr. had when he was running his father's bingo/carny games! The parallel of these two in many respects is remarkable.

As for Harrah's matchbooks, Harrah's PR department used to hand out matchbooks and ashtrays to all the motels in Reno and northern Nevada before they opened their hotel in '69. They'd also tell the motel operators that they weren't interested in taking away their business by building rooms like the bigshots at Harvey's or The Riverside, etc. thereby having another grateful hand to steer customers their way. grin
