Arch,
I was only saying what I thought Donald was saying, but I tend to agree with him.
There are many jobs that a woman can do better than a man and there are several physical jobs a man can do better than a woman. I don't think a woman should be a fireperson or in combat unless they can pass the same standards as a male. I don't like it when they lower standards just so that a woman can pass a standard. I know that right now I couldn't pass those standards and perhaps not even if in full shape. That would be my tough luck if I wanted in those jobs. In the fire service they dropped the requirement that a woman be able to lift 120 lbs. (I might be a bit off on the weight) Before women joined the Fire service a man had to be able to carry 120 (150?) pounds over his shoulder. This was to simulate that many times a fireman has to carry someone out of a burning house. Since women do not have the upper body strength that men do, very few of them could do this. So they lowered the standards that allowed a women to drag 120 lbs on the ground. Is that the same as a man carrying someone on the shoulder, I don't know?
I know that if a fireman was very tired from fighting a fire or injured in the fire and couldn't carry the weight he normally could over his shoulder, then he would have to drag someone out. If a woman fire fighter was tired or hurt, I guess she would just have to leave the person there.
I don't know the answer. I'm all for women being all they can be, but I don't like the political correctness that women have to be everywhere. I think that women can be President/VP as I voted for Ferraro when I was young and naive. (G) Not naive because she was a women but naive because she was a Demo. Mondale was her running mate. (G)
