As a Republican, I of course, voted for George Bush during this last election but by no means consider him a conservative. For no real conservative would advocate open borders which I deem George W. to do as he is not doing anything to protect us against all the illegal aliens from entering our country. So in that sense, there is no difference between the Republicans and Democrats. And yes, both parties increase the size and cost of government expenditures. But on most other issues, there certainly is a difference.
I vote for the party much more than I vote for the man as the man can't do anything without the support of his party. My main reason for voting for GW was so that he would appoint conservative judges. The ancillary benefit I received is that he also turned out to be a protector of out nation by ridding the world of a lunatic dictator.
