What a terrible thing to do......

Very bad thing to do to a nice $500 chip. Picked up this one last week in New Orleans.

Actually since I am retired now I am trying to network my 3 computers and needed to load my new FTP and scanning programs onto a different computer. What a pain! I couldn't get my network to log onto my DSL line. So I tried to reload the PCI driver. At that point I realized that my CD ROM drive was missing from my system info. Scratched my head for an hour or so and then decided to check the cables. Wiggled all of the cables a little and one reseated a little. Voila! My CD ROM reappeared. Reloaded the PCI drivers and still couldn't get connected. Spent 2 hours on the phone with Bellsouth DSL tech service. Uninstalled and reinstalled everything several times. Had all of the correct green lights and service tech finally gave up. I actually went so far as to connect another computer to their modem and confirmed that it could connect which meant that there was something wrong at my computers end. Was considering just getting a new ethernet card when I realized that it didn't seem like I had enough PCI cards shown on my system. Went back into the computer box and the ethernet card wiggled slightly and reseated. Voila! Now I had another PCI and the software wanted to know if I wanted to use a PCI card that would actually connect to their modem. grin A positive response and I was connected to the internet in about 3 seconds. I spent about 6 1/2 hours last night doing this and finally finished at 1:30 AM. Spent another 3 hours this morning loading programs onto this work computer. Now I have two computers with three monitors for my daytrading and my wife has the third computer and monitor for her stuff and email so she doen't have to bother me during the day.

God aren't computers great labor saving devices? vbg
