Mayor Rudy Guliani visited our city a few nights ago. He was here to speak on the tragedy that befell our country on September 11th. While he was here we were busting at the seams with pride to show him the memorial we had built to honor those victims and heroes of that fateful day. During its construction we wrote him on several occasions as well as put it in New York newspapers. We were the first in the country to erect such a memorial and very proud of it. I'm sure you remember the posts I made here about it and many of you even contribited to the project. While he was here, he was reminded of it and told it had been completed with an invitation to see it. Sadly, he did not even drive by it. We realize he is a busy man but Beaumont is not a large city so it’s not like it was too far out of the way. Even the tightest of schedules would allow 5 minutes as he drove to the airport the next day, remember he had to be there an hour prior to boarding and the memorial is less than a mile off the road to the airport. He did not have to make an ‘official’ visit but it would have sure been nice to know he at least saw it and smiled, maybe even signed the guest book. Just knowing he saw it would have been enough. There were many people who were very passionate about this project and it seems like the grand snub to them for him not to make a quick visit or at least drive by and wave.
It’s his choice to visit or not, but I think it was a poor choice.
