I agree Joseph - the Royal Family these days has little direct involvement in the running of the country, responsibility for which lies with the Government. There are a number of precesses which do involve the Royal Family, but many are either ceremonial or acts of 'rubber stamping' the decisions of Parliament.
In fact in recent years the Royal Family members, Charles mainly I seem to recall, has been castigated by the press (usually self confessed anti-monarchy press or reporters though) on several occasions for expressing opinions on matters of Government.
Much as I personally think the retention of a Royal Family is good for the country, their days of real influence over Government are long gone.
