They aren't used on the tables anymore, but they are ALWAYS available at the cashier's cage. Year after year I visit Caesar's Palace, and I can ALWAYS buy any quantity of these $1 chips, in mint condition, at the cage. The folks that work at the cashier's cage tell me that these chips have even been re-ordered just because people like them and the casino sells a lot of them. That's right, re-ordered just for cage sales! These chips are frequently listed on eBay as being "obsolete", "retired" or even "rare". I consider them a current, common, easily available chip.
