I am getting ready to buy a new computer that I need for day trading. I am trying to avoid spending a fortune on it since all I need it for is high speed data transfer. I don't need the multimedia stuff or a DVD-RW. Is there a real difference in processors? The salesmen seem to agree that Pentium 4 is the best closely followed by Athlon with Celeron a distant third. They are trying to tell me that these days processor speed isn't as important as what the chip does every time it executes a command and that is where Pentium 4 shines. Of course any computer with a Pentium 4 costs about $200 more than the cometition. One other thing I need in a computer is an empty AGP slot since I need it for a dual monitor card. Only moderately priced one I have seen so far with the slot is a Compac. Both of my current machines are 633 Mhz but they have Windows ME and it is getting too buggy to run. They both lock up frequently. Any comments on what to get?
