Steve, the Chip Rack needs to stay black and white. The cost to reproduce all those chips in color is a task that I doubt anyone would want to tackle.
But now to answer your question directly. Personally, I would like color as I believe others would. The cost to produce, of course, would have to increase dramatically as would the selling price, but I believe if a person is to buy your (anyones) book, he would rather pay the additional amount to have it in color.
Currently, a book (now outdated) for one of the states that I collect is printed in black and white. I don't own it for two reasons. The first is that the author's prices he assignes to those chips are way out of line and I have NEVER seen any chips sell for anywhere near his appraised value. Of course, most of us realize that he assigns greater prices to those chips he is selling as opposed to those he is trying to buy. But I expect all authors do the same thing. (I know I would if I published a book.)
So needless to say I would't buy his book to get a price range. But I would buy the book just to see what the chips looked like (IF THEY WERE IN COLOR) The black and white photos are of poor quality and just don't tell me much.
So, take it from there Steve.
One other thing. I don't expect that any author can provide monthly or quartely insertable updates such as I use to receive when I had my CPA practice from Prentiss Hall or CCH, but possibly some might consider publishing a book once every 3 or 4 years with yearly supplemental pages that could be attached at the end of the book for a lesser amount.
Just a thought.
