I'm not sure of all of the details either, Dick. As I understand it, Jacko bought the entire Beatles catalog, including not only publishing rights, but also the rights to monies generated by royalties collected by groups such as ASCAP and BMI. I have no idea if the album cover art was included in the deal.
If I remember right, Sony isn't the only company to have "lent" Jacko money using the Beatles catalog as collateral. It might be Sony has tossed enough funds into the pot that they can claim at least partial ownership.
