There has been considerable debate about the definition of "Obsolete" in regards to casino chips. My take on the definition is that a chip is obsolete if it is not currently in use on the tables. That could happen if the casino has closed or if there is a newer rack in use at the still open casino. I know that there are other considerations for the meaning of obsolete, for example is the casino closed or can you still redeem the chip. So maybe what we need is a different term to indicate that a chip is "out of circulation", meaning that if you went to the casino you could no longer get the chip off the tables. The term, whatever is used, would not mean that it is impossible to get the chip from the casino, you might get lucky and be able to get the chip from the cage if someone had turned one in. It would just mean that the chip was "out of circulation", not currently the rack in use at the casino, if the casino is still open. Perhaps we could call the new term "OOC" for "Out Of Circulation"? Your thoughts?
