You must have really enjoyed life...
In Response To: John- Give her time ()

to never think you'd see 30! Sounds like you were very lucky to find your wife.

My ex-wife was a career college student. She received all our mail, so I never knew about "our" debt until we were divorced. I went to buy a house about 2 years after our divorce and had to pay almost $30,000 in bills I never knew about! The problem was, she would open accounts under our names (it doesn't matter if she signed... you signed... the creditors are only after their money). I even have a new one now (it's been almost 10 years since our divorce) asking for almost $25,000. The debt is under her name (I'm not mentioned) but the creditor determined that since we were married at the time and that I should pay. I told them all debts in her name were her responsibility per the divorce decree... they really care less and have been harassing me daily (5-8 times) to pay her debt. If I'm not home to answer the phone, the lady will leave a message "Larry... Larry... Larry... Larry... Larry... Larry... Larry... Larry... Larry". It's really annoying!

I couldn't imagine my life being in such a sad state that I would force myself to harass someone knowing I had no legal right. The sad part is she really seems to get a high off of harassing me and telling me to do something she knows is wrong!

I wish they would harass my wife and leave me alone. The odd part is it isn't on my credit report (this one is obvious since my name isn't on the account) and it's not on my ex-wife's credit report. It was with Citibank and I called them to inquire about the debt and they said they wrote the debt off about 8 years ago (she said the tax benefit was greater to write off the entire debt than to sell it... I even offered to buy the debt from Citibank for 50% and she said the only way she could reopen the account was to receive payment in full)? If they wrote it off, that would mean they never sold it to a collection agency and no one should be attempting to collect? The other thing they told me was the debt was $10,500... so the lady added a small amount for her commission $14,500!!!!! (actually all $25,000 since there is no debt owed per Citibank.)

I filed a complaint with my state's attorney general, but their priorities are intrastate issues first... oh well, I guess I'll have to listen to my name every day until they get tired! If only they were from Indiana!
