You know, I just love that car story. At least the version that Artie Nathan told!! And Artie can tell some stories so it may be a little off, but it's still a good one!
As far as destroying old chips when new ones are made, that doesn't work when it comes to LE's. At least in the case of some like the ones you mentioned. They would end up destroying all their house chips and all the LE's would walk out the door, leaving nothing on the tables.
If the State or the Feds ever got involved in how some of theses chip inventories were accounted for, I think the few you mentioned would get killed. Of course the answer for them would be to cancel all their LE's, give the required amount of time, then chalk them up to income. Then the tax bill would kill 'em!!
