I've read the transcripts and couldn't pass judgment on Mel (at least in the manner it was authored). Speaking of analogies... didn't you just criticize Jill's analogy (which made sense to me... sounds like she listened to the facts and took another perspective in opposition of yours) and then shared a analogy with us of how this happens all the time to people in our judicial system... hey, wait... didn't you make a statement earlier today saying a club's decision of expulsion is NOT like our judicial system? I'm confused!
Is a criminal case in the best interest of the general public, the parties represented or the "oath" (pride... personal statistics, money...)? I personally couldn't defend someone who I knew was guilty... and I couldn't prosecute someone I knew to be innocent. My humanity, ethics and integrity would disallow such a stance. A club's decision should be in the best interest of the membership. PERIOD! Not based on an individual's decision. In court, are you allowed to interview all your clients and then represent them to the Jury? Was Mel and the other parties "heard" by the board?
How many decisions "for" the club will be made without the memberships input? Let's see... it was said that the members vote in the election based upon the prospective boards platform... what was the board's platform on (allegedly) reproduced brass-core chips? slabbing chips? rights of an expelled member? Were these addressed specifically or in general terms by the board enforce at the time these issues arose? If the decisions were right, then why are the majority not stepping up to support the boards decision... most of the posts are of a dissenting opinion. If you remove the support shown for Bruce... the VAST majority are dissenting viewpoints.
It is a mistake and will always be a mistake to hold one individual accountable to make the decisions for the membership. Ethics should be decided by an ethics committee and not an Ethics Director (or whatever title an individual holds). All parties responsible to make a decision must be present to hear the "facts" and to ask questions to clarify any issues that may arise.
Hopefully, the newly elected board members will "listen" to it's membership and implement the steps necessary to grow the hobby (it should be majority rules...).
Feel free to tell me shut up again...
