If the club magazine is to be a magazine truly worthy of recognition by such outside entities as the ANA, it should never limit itself to submissions only by club members. Nor should it be limited to reporting on club events – which it isn’t. I mean – is it a magazine? Or simply a newsletter?
For example, chip releases and stories about individuals going on chip collecting excursions are not club events. They are, however, of interest to club members, and as such appropriate for publication in a magazine for club members. Warm remembrances of a fine chipper who gave a lot to the hobby are also of interest to club members, and as such, (I think) appropriate for publication.
The passing of Bruce Landau, although I never had the pleasure of meeting him, was clearly a great loss to our community and our club. I think it is grossly inappropriate to use the outpouring of love and remembrance of a fine and important chipper as a podium from which to bash the club or the board of directors. Regardless, I think the expressions over the passing of such an important individual are completely appropriate to the club magazine, regardless of the author’s standing as a member or non-member of the club.
