It makes absolutely no difference. Nowhere is it written that only Club members can write for the magazine, and I would oppose any such move if it were proposed.

Mel and Bruce were good friends. Mel wrote a touching and fitting tribute to his friend.

Any suggestion that it should not have been published is way off base.
