"Civility", on the other hand, is a more slippery concept.
By civility I meant basing ones disagreement on facts and not engaging in personal invective and name calling. I also meant identifying opinion as opinion and fact as fact and doing so without resorting to "the vernacular of the man in the street" as one of my old Profs used to call it.
People have varying levels of tolerance for confrontation and the unvarnished truth.
The level often varies between when they are confrontor and when they are the confrontee.
