Struck or Stamped into the surface
In Response To: Seriously, though ... ()

The first time I ever saw it, was for casino chips. Had to look, and it comes from old coins where designs made in the surface, instead of raised, like most features of a coin usually are.

So Struck or Stamped are the keys here. The H&C and most other molds would also be an incused design. The reason for the destinction is that the DieCard mold was originally made this was and later Bud Jones made injection molded chips with the same pattern. The easiest way to tell the different is "incused" vs flat chips.

The Silver Bird chips that are real are Incused with metal centers, the Fakes are molded with similar centers.

Now if it had said Intaglio, I would have known, but it would be wrong, because for some reason, that specifies Carved or Cut into the surface.

Oh... got me Rich! grin

These guys are out chipping.
