Re: Not chip Related/Computer Question

What version of Windows XP are you running and do you have administration rights?

I don't suggest Windows ME as it is bloated and extremely unreliable - try to sort the XP problem out.

Did you uninstall the previous drivers before installing the new ones or just update the current drivers?

Is the device USB - have you got the latest motherboard drivers? They could be incompatible with XP and just require a simple bios flash to update, this is a problem with cheaper mobos.

Search the Microsoft knowledge base (at www.microsoft.com) and search under your product titl or area. If it is a kown problem i.e. HP say update drivers, then it is likely that Microsoft have an article on it.

Find the windows 2000 drivers for the product and try then (back up a restore point beforehand thogh.) I know HP have either provided support for their products under XP or simply ignored them with the 'update drivers' solution. I waited 8 months while HP promised me XP compatible drivers for my CDRW, I ended up using a mix of 2000 and custom ones.

Hope this helps, there is so much more to ask but I need to sleep and failed my economics exam by 1%

Joseph Walsh
