No, it wasn't. It came as quite a surprise to me. I am probably the only Sonic in the country that was still selling them, quite in violation of my license agreement. I've always said that I would sell them until I received the registered letter.
Actually, though, I had quite a bit to do with Pickelo's in the first place. I don't know if you remember, but back in the '70's there was an onion shortage and the price of onions went sky high. Onion Rings are our signature item, we make them fresh every day. Trouble was, with the price of onions so high, we lost money on every order we sold there for a while. We were looking for another crispy snack item to put on the menu to take away some onion ring sales, something we could make a profit on. The A&W in Bartlesville, OK was selling "Fried Pickles" and my boss at the time (I was just a night cook), sent me down there to buy an order so he could see what they were like. I got them and then my boss and I "reverse engineered" them. They were pretty tasty and the rest is history.
