Purists will say yes but if an ivory shows up that I do not have the existence of a nerve hole won't stop me from acquiring it. Nonetheless, cracked (common, unfortunately) and nerve holed chips are obviously less desireable than the perfect chip. In 2001 I sought to trade a chip I value at $600 for a crown I did not then have--that was bringing $250 or so...but the dealer wouldn't trade me as my chip had a hairline mark and so for him perfection was important. I have a duplicate at home without any cracks, hairline or otherwise and I would not have traded that one for his crown. In otherwords beauty, value, nerve, holes and cracks lie in the beholder.
