It worked. The Rio chip is glued into the ring at two spots (3 o'clock and 9 o'clock). Dipping in hot water allowed the metal ring to expand and then I could pop the chip out. Glue remains on the chip and I have a small nick on the rim.

Otherwise, the chip is new, with sharp edges.
