It's used sometimes for $2 - $4, $4 - $8, and $8 - $16 poker. $2 could be used as a drop though. Typically, if you look at a California chip run, they will have a nice $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, and a plain hotstamped $3. The nice $3 is for poker, and the hot stamp $3 is for the drop.
