....well, you know the finish of the axiom.
Case in point.
I saw three chips being auctioned off on Ebay with just minutes to go. Time was of the essence so I bid on the three chips; a $0.50, $2.00 and a $5.00 chip.--all current from a casino fairly close to where I live for a total price of $8.00 plus $1.85 shipping.
Although the shipping charges were way out of line I figured since the person was selling the chips at close to face value, I would concede to the excess postage fees.
Come to find out, although the auction showed a picture of the 3 chips, only 2 chips (the $0.50 and $2.00) were being sold at the $8.00 price plus the $1.85 postage.
Now the seller did not misrepresent what was for sale as he stated specifically it was for only 2 chips--which I did not see until after I placed my bid. In my haste, I bid on an item without first taking the time to read the description in total. Completely my error.
But I was so mad at myself for bidding $8.00 plus and extra $1.85 for postage for two current chips with a total face value of $7.50, that I was beside myself. So I email the seller, and asked him that if I did in fact win the bid (which I had no doubt I would) if he would just accept the $8.00 and keep the two chips instead of me sending him an additional $1.85 postage. (I figured that on my next trip down to Los Angeles, I would just stop in the casino and pick up what I wanted at face value.)
The seller did emailed me back saying just forget the whole thing....(plus an additional sentence which I will not relate.)
The bottom line.
Read the description carefully. Try to buy from someone you know and don't jump into something quickly just because time is running out.
I never personally met this person, although I know him from his reputation. He does not participate on this board (although I know he reads it) and is not a member of the club.
I thank him for letting me off the hook on this auction but I should have known that he would not normally sell any chips for anywhere close to face value but I let myself believe what I wanted to read in his listing.
Thanx everyone, for letting me get this off my chest.
