The Value of Chipping?

Steven, you said "Once the value is gone from chip collecting so well the collectors be."

I disagree. To me, the hobby is nothing about money and all about the chips. I don't give a damn how much a chip is worth. I like the chips for its own subjective merit; the way it looks, the way it feels, or what it reminds me of. To me, that's what chip collecting is about.

I looked through The Chip Rack and saw the values associated with some of my "dog" chips, I was astonished. How could the $1 Swanky be worth that much? It made me feel completely differntly about the chips I collected. The chips I liked were now worthless and the chips I despised were the most valuable.

Feh. I returned The Chip Rack to the club library and no longer let it influence my opinion of my chips.

The "value" of a chip means nothing to me. What makes this hobby so interesting is that there is room for every point of view. Some collect for investing, others for sentimentality, others because they simply want a complete set of something. We have a very diverse group of people here who all have something in common.

To me, that is the value of chipping.

I'm off to fondle my chips.
