Just one man's experience, to add to the rest:
Everyone comps based on play and not "bankroll." After all, a $2,500 bankroll means nothing. How much are you betting?
I've found at a mid-range strip casino a basic rule of thumb is average bet times hours played equals comp dollars. At tighter places, it can be worse. For example, at The Hard Rock my wife racked four staight hours at $100/hand and we got comped only one night.
If you're talking the Orleans, I think $25/hand for 4 hours should get you a room for that night. However, The Orleans does NOT track play as regularly as other casinos -- their software is weak. If staying at that particular property, I would call a host in advance and let him know what you expect. If you do more than $50 a hand, I would ask for a suite.
Again, this is all based on my personal experiences, and i would advise you to collect as much info as possible before making a move. I have been comped a room at Caesars when I never thought I would rate a comp there. The next trip, the Tropicana nearly refused to comp me until I raised a stink. I was down $1200 and had done a 12-hour session at (in my estimation) $40/hand average. They had me up $200 and virtually no play. I yelled and screamed and named the 3 pit bosses I had played under the night before, and asked that they call them, and they agreed to comp me. In other words -- you never know.
Good luck. Let me know when you're in town. I'd love to buy you a drink.
