Uniformed or unknowledgable are better words. It would be more correct to say that you're ignorant of certain aspects of chip collecting. To just say ignorant in general, (although it is a correct word in this context) seems to be more of description totally lacking in social graces, table manners, etc.
Speaking as a rookie myself, I'm sure a few on this board have forgotten more than I'll probably ever know. That makes me very uniformed. Even the experts can be uninformed.
I am, by no means, a grammatician. Having read your postings, I would never call you ignorant.
