Although I normally won't respond to those who do not post their names on The Chip Board, I've seen postings regarding cleaning lately on which I would like to comment...
There seems to be a prevailing sentiment here on The Chip Board that one should not clean chips that they are planning to sell or trade. Whatever you may personally decide, I can tell you one thing with certainty: clean/cleaned chips fetch better prices on eBay. I've been studying this closely for years now, and the facts are that the sharper and larger the scan, the cleaner the chip, and the better the description, the higher the sales price.
There are exceptions to every rule, of course, and I think that very old and worn chips (especially hot stamps) do not look natural if completely cleaned.
