Do specialize, don't try to collect everything from everywhere.
Do ask questions. Some of them may not have answers, as is evidenced on this BB frequently, but ask anyway. Seek knowledge about what you are collecting, even if you think you know it all!
Conversely to asking questions, share knowledge. Any hobby, especially those hobbies where the items involved can and do sometimes involve 5-figure monetary exchanges need everything that somebody knows to be (or become) common knowledge whenever possible.
Do establish relationships with your fellow collectors. That often leads to the formation of life-long friendships. In this hobby, this is easy. You won't find a better group of people anywhere!
The "Golden Rule" goes a long way in any aspect of life. Treat others as you would want to be treated and most of the time, thats what happens.
Pay close attention to detail when looking at a chip. I've found errors and variations previously unknown, all too often by accident (like scanning a chip and not noticing the error or variation until I was editing the image to save it.)
