Most psychoactive drugs make the user paranoid. The last place a person on acid wants to be is in a 7-11 or supermarket. They want to be home.
I seldom pass on the topics discussed here with my wife because usually they are of no interest to her. But I shared this thread with her (abvr version) and asked her thoughts / views. In our discussion she told me that they (emergency room) see a large number of wrecks, shootings, and assalts involving (influence of) alcohol, and OTHER drugs. Alcohol being the most frequent. She remembered a touching story that happened not very long ago where an 18-wheel trucker ran across the grass median and hit a minivan right at the driver's door. The driver and a baby in the back seat were killed and the wife in serious condition. The truck driver (minor cuts and abrasions) had been using uppers of some kind (I can't remember (or spell ) the name of the drug they found in his system (and in his truck) but is was NOT an over the counter medication) to stay awake, and he had been driving way too long. He broke several laws and killed two people. What was it that will prevent this from happening MORE if we make it MORE available by legalizing it? I don't recall a solution to that . . . do you? The honor system didn't work (2 dead).
Other drugs may very well make you inclined to stay at home like you say. There are all kinds of undesirable possibilities that could happen if not rationally thinking.
I have a friend serving his 11th year of a mandatory third offense 25-year sentence for trying to pass a fake prescription.
Bob, if he was passing fake prescriptions (first or third offense) you KNOW that he knew it was against the law AND he was taking a risk. Whether or not it was a good or bad law, it was still against the law he had to know and he took the risk. If he was not guilty in an unfair trial he should not be serving time and I agree with you. If he had a fair trial and was found guilty unfortunately he has to pay the price. Again, he knew the rules, took the risk and he lost. The blame is not the system; it's your friend's actions. Surely you agree (even if you don't agree with the good/bad law).
