No guest has ever gotten drunk in my home. I have never allowed anyone to leave by driving a car if they were even slightly under the influence. Generally speaking, my guests are family and friends who come as couples or in groups. There is always a designated driver for every vehicle who does not drink.
I had a rule with my kids when they were in high school -- they were not allowed to drive after drinking at all or ride in a car with a driver who had been drinking at all. They were allowed to call me at any time for a ride home if they could not follow that rule, with no repercussions whatsoever. I once drove 60 miles round trip after midnight to pick up one of them whose driver had been drinking.
BTW, if I was a shrink, I'd say that I thought you must have had a bad experience with a lawyer at some time in your life.
