to "reward" her with a gift. To give cash to an employee that already works for you is not fair to other employees. Should the boss now give every employee who is heading to gaming location $20 to bet on #29? I think not, but I imagine some employees will feel slighted.
Also, the employer already "pays" the employee. If he gives her cash, is it then payroll? A bonus? Should it not then be taxed?
The act of giving cash to a subordinate, especially of the opposite sex, can be misconstrued into so many wrong notions that I would be sure to avoid it.
So, on second thought, I felt that the boss should have said, "Thank you" and offered a nice dinner to her and her husband.
Unfortunately, the boss said, "How'd we do?" At that moment, he included her into the winnings (or a portion of it). Therefore, he should give her part of the winnings (a nominal amount, greater than $20 but less than $100) and be prepared to irritate her husband, his wife and then other employees that do not get the opportunity to act as the boss' runner.
Just an opinion.
What did you do Mike?
