I'm still running Win98 on my newest laptop, Win95 on the two older ones. More and more software is being written everyday that won't run in Win95 and the same thing is happening with Win98.
That's my beef with Microsoft. ...and yet I can see why they do it. If people have to buy new software from other companies that will work with the newer versions of MS, they are helping in an obtuse way to keep those companies in business writing what are the same programs but adapted to new operating software, it takes some of the "monopoly heat" off of MS.
I'm probably gonna have to get a new laptop next February, simply because the programs being written today crawl when I have to use them with Win98 on a 400 meg Pentium powered machine. I understand necessary memory increases needed to run the newer huge programs, but, if someone could figure out how to make them work quickly with the faster front-end bus of the newer CPU chips and a simpler operating system like Win3.1, everything would go faster, and be simpler. ...I think!
