I just moved from Beaumont to Lumberton (7 miles from Beaumont). Beaumont is wet, Lumberton is dry. They are voting on making it wet again (been dry 25+ years). I listened to the debates on the radio today about each side of the issue. Bear in mind you can drive 5 miles in any direction from Lumberton an hit a full fleged liquer store so What's the Point?? There is beer in 75% of the rifrigerators in Lumberton so spare me the "evils of alcohol coming to our city speech" I really don't know why there are pockets of dry counties/cities. I suppose it's largely the bible thumping Baptist & moral majority. It's plagued legalized gambling too. Seems to me consumption won't change a bit, so cash in on the profits for OUR city rather than sending it down the road. Same applies for gambling except to a HUGE degree. There is millions crossinf the border to Lousiana weekly. I think the biggest lobbiest against gambling in Texas is LOUSIANA! I don't have an answer, I wish I could make sence of it too Bob!
