Obviously there is no direct need for the manufacturers to do so. I've been lead to believe by some posts on this page, however, that at least some of the manufacturers -- or key employees at those companies -- are friendly to the hobby. You never know who might be offended by these refurbishments -- perhaps it just rubs them the wrong way it in the same manner it offends so many on this board. But you are correct, absent moral outrage, they have no real reason to care or be responsive to requests from this club that they get invovled, since collectors aren't their customers.
I can't remember any instances of consumers having standing to bring a Lanham Act case. Too bad -- since the act is meant to protect consumers. Might be worth pulling out my old Trademark books to look into some day.
