While I can appreciate your desire to eliminate controversy you may have added fuel to the fire by keeping this a semi-secret. The best approach is to keep people informed. That way there are no surprises positive or negative. A clothing store here in the east has a slogan "An informed consumer is our best customer" The board could learn from this.
