Seems at the moment everyone is waiting for our mean little Governor to end his term and then things might shake loose. He thinks you can legislate morality so he's been playing great white father (he's a democrat natch) and obstructing any Warm Springs attempt at prosperity via gambling. It would be a slam-dunk for the tribe to put a casino right in the heart of the Columbia Gorge Senic Area by appealing to BIA but they may be reluctant because of the ill will that may cause in Hood River, the site where they have the most property by treaty and other acquisition. Cascade Locks would be ideal with their depressed economy but Kitzhaber won't let the Native Americans stray from the reservation. Additional flack is coming from the tribe running Spirit Mt. who Does Not want to give up a single ¢ from the Portland area and is probably going to follow the Indian gaming tradition and sue, sue, sue (not the Suiox kind of sue but the forked-tongue kind). Warm Springs casino brings in about $4 mill yearly and Spirit Mt. is over $200 million easily.
