Reading the posts in this and the other related thread I feel an urge to inject some thoughts. I would agree that people should not get personal with their criticisms by making specific comments at individuals. I do not recall reading such personal attacks against Mark Karrol. I do recall that several voiced their negative reviews of the chip though. I will go back and read the posts again to make sure I am not wrong about that. If it turns out that there were personal statements made then I will stand corrected. I do agree that your statment that the nay sayers on this chip are "IDIOTS" or your comments toward Gene are in fact a personal statements and is uncalled for. I don't think criticism of this chip is any more personal than say a bad review of a new movie is personal to the Director, Producer, Studio or Actors. I suppose they are personal to the point that a chip is a persons creation and a piece of their handywork. As a photographer and Videographer if I produce a bad picture or film, I would expect that I might get some criticism. Is it Personal??? While it might hurt I think the more professional attitude would be to learn from that input and use it to make my work or products better.
I have several 4Q chips in my collection and appreciate them very much. I would have to agree though that there have been many RECENTLY though that seem to have little significance or purpose or cheracter and I personally haven't had the desire for any of them. I don't think I have seen a desirable 4Q chip that I have bought in over a year. This chip is one that I don't see any significance or sense to. I get the impression that 4 Queens is struggling to come up with art or purposes for chips. They seem to put them out indiscriminently just for the sake of putting them out. Using a little more discretion might allow them to make the fewer releases more significant. Nobody has said to stop making them. At least I never have. Just because I haven't had an interest doesn't mean everyone out here hasn't. I have said on a couple occasions that maybe fewer releases with more purpose would be better.
Yes the color of the printing is in theme with the season but other than that it is BLAH. Just my opinion of course. Others may feel differently and of course it is their right to buy the chip.
I feel that the release of frequent chips is fine if they have some redeaming value that makes people want them or if they fulfill a need by the casino for a new chip. I have seen a few Palms chips that I personally don't have an interest in but that may just be my personal taste. I will concede on that subject though that most of the Palms chips have been nice and well thought out. Some just didn't have themes that fit my interests or strike my desire to buy one. To criticize Palms or Gene for the number of chips is misguided. All the chips put out by Palms have seemed to have a purpose or theme along with significant supporting art. A concert, a convention, a restaraunt, holiday...
Putting out a $1 House type chip where all you have done is changed the color of the fine print on your URL address and calling that Halloween, I would have to say is cheap. A design doesn't have to be elaborate. I saw a program once where they were talking about commercial art and logos. The most successful advertising logos have usually been the simplest. The Golden Arches for example. The eagle for the postal service etc. However I think there should have been something more. Even if it were a simple Jack-0-Lantern or a some Candy Corn and a Carmel Apple or something...
I have gone on enough, Maybe too much. I have seen some actions in the last year or so that indicate that some casinos may be taking less of an interest in putting out chips. That is a shame and I agree that pressure from collectors may sometimes be discouraging and cause some lack of enthusiasm. I hope 4Q doesn't stop producing chips. I just think they should put a little more thought in their releases and I for one would not be upset if there were a few less releases in exchange for some more significant ones.
