Does your computer have USB Ports? USB scanners tend to work faster than Parellel port scanners. If you don't have USB ports you usually can buy a USB card and pop into your computer, the USB cards are fairly inexpensive and easy to install.

Since most scanners are now USB compatible I would hate to see you go out and buy a scanner and not have a USB port to run it.
