In my case, it's my husband who squanders the "family nest egg"!!!
We share the hobby....but from slightly different angles. My husband spends many hours patiently searching ebay for that item that no one else has found, or that special ashtray that we don't have. Just yesterday we received a decorative thermometer in the mail....it's marked "Freddie & Frances | Club 25 & Hi-Ho Club | Salt Lake Hiway - Close to Nellis A.F.B | Las Vegas Nevada". He found it on ebay...and we paid about $10. Of course, we also have an ashtray that we paid $700 for! (and I would NOT have bid that much!!)
I spend hours cataloging, organizing, cross-checking reference guides, reading the chip board, etc. I enjoy that part, but my husband doesn't...so I just fill him in on the high-lights.
Both of us read the books, look at the pictures, surf the net in search of sites, etc.
If your wife thinks you're nuts for being a chipper, is there any chance that you can get her interested in another area of the hobby...for example, casino china...or matches...or swizzle sticks...or postcards....or keychains....or banks...or glassware....or playing cards....or postcards....or.....????
Just a few rambling thoughts.....
