Like I said Barry- he made it nice for people driving in from the suburbs. There's a reason he did that. if you look at the results of both of the Guiliani/Dinkins races, you'll note that the percentage split for every boroughs was nearly identical. In other words -- Guilianai or Dinkins carried the same boroughs, by nearly the same percentage each time. So why did Dinkins win the first time, and Guiliani the second? Well, the second time, the non-binding issue of secession was on the ballot in Staten Island -- where Guilianai won both times. Because so many Staten Islanders didn't want to be part of New York City, there was a HUGE turnout in voting on Staten Island that time. And of course, while they were there voting to secede from New York City, they also cast their votes for Rudy. So he was basically elected by people who hated New York City and didn't want to be a part of it. (Staten Island has more in common with New Jersey than NYC anyway). And he basically did everyhting he coupld to make those people happy. In other words, he ran New York City in a way to please suburbanites.
