Kerry-
It's a harsh word, and perhaps I should have used "fascist." But when you call Rudy a fascist, people claim you're being anti-Italian. Of course, unlike Musilini, for all of Rudy's rules and regualtions he was never able to make the trains run on time.
Seriously though -- Rudy is a fanatic for order. He believes that more rules, and more strictly enforcing those we have, make the world a better place. He's also a racist, who empowered a previously-decent police force to become racist thugs. Is anyone even aware that racism in the NYPD had become so bad by the end of Guiliani's term that the Federal government was threatening to take control of the department -- because the city refused to do anything about the systematic civil rights abuses! New York was the only major city in AMerica with no race riots after the OJ verdict, and by the end of Rudy's term our racial tension was worse than L.A.
And as I noted, he illegally barred protests, and illegally threatened to cut off funding to museums he didn't like.
SO we have:
1) Fanatic for law and order
2) Empowered a racist police force to deny civil rights based on race
3) Illegally squashed anti-government demonstrations
4) Tried to "cleanse" public museums of offenxive art
Sorry, that reminds me of a couple of leaders in Germany and Italy. Like I said, maybe not Nazi, but definiutely fascist.
