Rene-
I won't commit to this because, quite simply, i don't know if i will do this next week. I can tell you that my wife is ACTIVELY looking for a homeless group to volunteer with because we recenltly realized that here in Vegas, out of site is out of mind.
In New York, none of my friends ever left a restaurant without a doggy bag to offer to the homeless.
In my first apartment, I knew the homeless guy on the corner so well that he would watch my dog for me for an hour if need be, and I once borrowed 4 bucks from him in a pinch. That particular experience taught me that the people most peope ignore are human beings. This guy was smart, kind, and a junkie. I ignored the last part, but never forgot it. We all have our faults. I have "respectable' friends who have done worse things than he EVER did.
A few years later I worked at a pizza place on Bowery and Bleeker in NYC (THE BOWERY). I would always bring pizza to the homeless as I left work. Some junkies would refuse my offers because they couldn't beg for heroin money with pizza in hand. I never let that disuade me from offering it to the 60% of the homeless who thanked me.
So anyway, thanks for reminding me of a problem that I only see when I'm downtown.
You are a good man Rene.
