Let's see... the manufacturer's are giving the samples away to Chip Dealers! I think maybe they have an idea that the dozen examples of a single sample they've bestowed on one of these worthies may find their way onto eBay or the sales table. I was sitting at the table of one of my favorite dealers at the Reno show and he showed me about a dozen neato chips, plaques and Jze-Tones he is keeping for his personal collection so not all the giveaways get sold. Here's a couple of Expo samples from different sources, the Chipco cost me $3 and I traded for the TCS on about the same level, not unreasonable at all. I would think that there are more than a few manu. sample collections going out there.
