Al,
while I agree that terms like rare and scarce are subjective terms, I have seen Dean use them on chips that can not possibly be considered rare or scarce. I can not give you a recent example because I stopped looking at his auctions years ago.
When a person not familiar with chips make this mistake I am not very bothered by it. But it is obvious that Dean knows better.
I have not heard anybody complain that he gets too much for his chips. Actually I believe that know he gets to little because of all the people who won't deal with him. He always has a lot of chips listed and I know that I would bid on many of them if he addressed the complaints against him and demonstrated a change in attitude. Whether I would win or not my bids would drive up his final price. I know that my not bidding on his auctions (on chips that I would like to buy) has cost him quite a bit of money.
As to other complaints aside from his use of "rare", One club member has reported that he has substituted chips that is he he puts a picture of one chip in his auction and sends a chip in lesser condition. This claim is supported by the fact that it appears that he reuses the same picture in multiple auctions. Another club member paid him for a Hard Rock $25 Cinco de Mayo chip which he never received. Dean has never disputed these allegations.
