Bob; THANK YOU for a well-written, eloquent, and gentlemanly response. And thanks to all who sent me private e-mails! I assure you as well as everyone else that I have never knowingly deceived anybody with the description of my ebay chips. This is my humble opinion here: I simply called the Bally's chip an "error" because in my mind it IS an error--Bally's for sure did NOT want to spell the name of the town "Robinsville", irregardless of the manufacturing process. If a U. S. stamp came out with the words "Untied States of America", that would definitely be considered an error stamp even though 100 million of them might be printed with no corrections and no fault in manufacturing. When writing my chip description, I mentally applied the same situation to the mis-spelled chip; even though there was not a manufacturing defect on the physical condition of the chip, the mis-spelling still made it an error.
I have carefully read the definition section of the CCandGTCC Glossary and have noted that for the CCandGTC Club, the definition of error is confined to those made with a "manufacturing defect." It appears though (unless I overlooked it), that chips with mis-spelled words aren't even addressed in the definitions, nor does it explain why errors are limited to mfg. defects. To avoid future confusion, perhaps your group might like to expound upon this in future glossary updates.
Anyway, for the sake of clarity, if I post future ebay notices on this BB I will be more mindful of the group's glossary definition of "error" and describe as accurately as possible all differences to the norm. However, because I'm not an actual member of CCandGTCC and therefore not bound to it's definitions, on any of my auction pages I reserve the right to to call a mis-spelled chip an error chip!
Also, it has been made known to me via private e-mail that by not stating the amount of chips I personally own of the Bally's chip, not only can the market value of the chip not be accurately determined, it can be perceived I might try something to artifically inflate the price. So, in an effort to show my good will to the group, I am stating for everyone on the BB I have 38 of the chips.
Last but not least (tired cliche' there), I was surprised to get a couple of private e-mails that sided with my point of view, and in effect said arguing with Gene Trimble would be an exercise in futility because no matter how accurate your points are, he always had to have the last word. I'll admit I was getting tired of it. Besides, NFL Sunday is coming up and I'd rather see the Raiduhs do some a**-whooping than argue about semantics. It is apparent that he is a long-time collector, and I'll give him credit for his passion.
