Hi Jack,
There is an eBay seller who uses the word "rare" when describing casino chips issued in the thousands. If compared to states quarters, minted in quantities of 250 nillion each, they are rare. In the chip collecting hobby, they are considered common. This individual is aware of how chip collectors view rarity, yet he continues to use the word "rare" to describe common chips in his auctions. This practice is viewed as deceptive, an attempt to fool an inexperience buyer into bidding more for a common item.
That's why we try to be on the same page when using descriptive words and terms when the subject is casino chips. When some of the experts in the hobby try to correct or clarrify a misconception held by someone new to the hobby, it is done in an effort to educate.
I don't think there is a way to prove to you that a spelling mistake made in the design process doesn't make a chip manufactured with that design an error chip. All I can do is show you how the word "error" is used within this particular hobby.
