Each system is different, but I do not know of any that put personal information on the stripe such as SS#, etc. Some systems DO put your name on the stripe, along with the account information (which is usually a site code and account number).

Previous post is correct - a common refrigerator magnet will erase brown magnetic stripes. Black ones will require a much heavier magnet to erase.
