my 2 cents worth...
I'm not too worried about the $$$ impact it has on that particular item. For a company like the Hard Rock that does make a substantial amount on selling collectibles (pins, shot glasses, t-shirts, chips), you'd think they would not want to cause any riffs for those people who have already purchased those limited items from them.
I personally would like to see someone submit a claim to Nevada Commission about the practice of re-releasing a chip that has been designated as "Limited Edition" on the chip and/or packaging. Sounds like a misleading practice that should be investigated. If the HR has done nothing wrong, then they should have nothing to fear from a claim being submitted.
It is a real gray area. I would venture to guess that any casino can re-release any commemorative chip as long as they don't say "Limited Edition ####". But what if the item was marketed as "Limited" even though a production limit count was not published??? This set WAS marketed as "Limited" on the jewel case.
I don't feel it is appropriate to re-produce a "limited" chip four years later. Now if a casino produces a commemorative chip without any indication of it being limited in nature (even though it may be assumed to be limited by collectors), I would technically say they have would probably have the right to produce more.
